On July 25, 2015, two-year-old Jade MacDonald was playing with her siblings in a park near her home when she wandered away.

CPR was performed, but the girl was pronounced dead by EMS.

RCMP said the toddler, who was one of six children, was not under adult supervision at the time of her drowning.

A few days after the child’s death, a large crowd gathered at a vigil near the pond to pay tribute. Pink balloons and orange butterflies, representing Jade’s favourite colours, were released into the air.
