The weather was picture perfect on Saturday for Open Forest Day. The event attracted hundreds of people of all ages to Shubie Park in Dartmouth.
This was the second year that Open Forest Day has taken place in Dartmouth to promote wildlife, biodiversity and the important role that natural resources play in the province’s economy.

“It’s essential that we connect to nature and as everyone is aware, we’re less connected now then we were in the past,” said Don Cameron, Department of Natural Resources.
“So, we’ve created this event to bring the kids, families and everybody of all ages out to the forest to learn about the role the forest plays in the environment, economic, social, so many different things for people to see and help people reconnect to nature and the forest.”

There was face painting, canoe and kayak rentals and many other fun family activities taking place. Interactive displays were also placed around the trails of the park to try and engage the public in the discussion.
