Stormy weather could kick off the weekend in southern Manitoba

WINNIPEG — Friday will be a hot and humid one throughout most of Manitoba.

The only region not feeling much of the heat will be Churchill where temperatures will hover in the low teens through to Sunday.

With the heat and humidity through the south that means the threat of thunderstorms returns once again, with the probability of them becoming severe in nature.

Environment Canada says severe thunderstorm watches are possible this afternoon in parts of southwestern Manitoba. Conditions could deteriorate and area residents could see heavy rain, hail and high winds.

That storm activity will trek east, meaning we could see action tonight and into Saturday morning.

If you are headed to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers season opener at Investors Group Field, you may want to bring some rain gear just in case.

It will definitely be a sticky night with the humidex level reaching the low 30’s with a low of just 19 Celsius.

Depending on how quickly the system moves in from Saskatchewan parts of Manitoba could be waking up Saturday morning to showers and possible thunderstorms.

We are not likely to see much of the sun this weekend as we’ll welcome cooler temperatures move in for Sunday with more rain and a high of only 19 C.

As we head into the final week of June, we are looking at returning back to sunny skies and temperatures above normal.
