Newton sentenced to 7 years for Kelowna bus stabbing

Guilty plea in Kelowna transit bus homicide – Jun 22, 2016

UPDATE:  Tyler Newton has been sentenced to seven years, minus time served, for the stabbing death of Caesar Rosales. Newton will serve four and a half years.

KELOWNA–The man charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a Kelowna man on a city bus has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Tyler Newton was 23 years old when he was arrested on October 31, 2014, a day after 55-year-old Caesar Rosales was fatally slashed in the neck while riding a transit bus in what police say was a random attack.

The incident happened on the University 8 bus on Baron Road behind Dilworth Centre — off Highway 97.

Rosales moved to the Okanagan from the Lower Mainland about two years before his murder to work as a business systems analyst with Kelowna Flightcraft.
