Few Islanders want Mike Duffy to represent P.E.I. in the Senate: poll

A new poll of residents on Prince Edward Island has found most don’t want Senator Mike Duffy continue to represent Prince Edward Island in the Senate.

The poll found 71 per cent oppose Senator Duffy continuing to represent P.E.I., while 23 per cent are in support. Fewer than one in ten (six per cent) said they were undecided or offered no opinion.

Duffy was acquitted in April on 31 criminal charges, including fraud, breach of trust and bribery, stemming from his Senate expenses. In May, the Crown decided not to appeal the acquittal.

“It’s evident that Senator Duffy does not have the confidence of Islanders to represent them in the Senate,” said Don Mills, chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates.

“This is in keeping with a previous CRA poll in October 2013 where a strong majority of P.E.I. residents felt Senator Duffy should resign when charges were initially made about the Senator’s improper living expense claims,” Mills said.
