On Tuesday, investigators returned to the wooded area in Saint-Maurice, just outside Trois-Rivières, where a hunter stumbled upon the little girl’s remains.

Provencher was reported missing July 31, 2007.

The nine-year-old was last seen asking people in her neighbourhood if they had seen a lost dog.

Sgt. Claude Denis with the Sûreté du Québec would not comment on what prompted the new search.
