The provincial government is taking aim at street violence with a new ‘Guns and Gangs’ initiative.
As part of the new program, a province-wide gun amnesty will be in effect during the month of October.

People are encouraged to hand over any guns or ammunition they no longer want or need.
Gun owners shouldn’t bring their firearms in to a detachment, but should contact police and an officer will be sent to pick them up.
“The route cause of these events is access to a weapon,” said Mike Morris, Public Safety Minister. “And we want to reduce the situations where children, minors, people that might be going through emotional times in their life have access to these weapons.”
