A North Carolina woman found a note on her car accusing her of parking in a spot reserved for veterans, even though she was a veteran.
Rebecca Landis Hayes found the message on her vehicle on June 13 that read:
“This parking is for veterans, lady. Learn to read and have some respect.”
However, Hayes said she is a veteran who proudly served her country in the U.S. navy for eight years.
“I was a little shocked, and angry and also sad,” Hayes said about the note to NBC affiliate, WCNC News.
“Veterans come in all different shapes, sizes…races and genders. You can’t necessarily stereotype what an American veteran looks like.”
Hayes took to Facebook to respond to the stranger who left her the message, which read in part:
“To the person who left this note on my windshield… I’m sorry that you can’t see my eight years of service in the United Sates Navy. I’m sorry that your narrow misogynistic world view can’t conceive of the fact that there are female veterans….Mostly, I’m sorry that we didn’t get a chance to have this conversation face-to-face…”
