A Canadian man has been killed in Negril, Jamaica, a town on the west coast known to tourists for its resorts.
In a statement, Global Affairs Canada said Canadian officials at the High Commission in Kingston, Jamaica are in contact with local authorities but would not release any further details.
At least one Jamaican report alleges the man was 35-year-old Deneis Palakai, real estate agent from Ontario.
The Jamaica Observer cites local police reports, saying Palakai was with two other people — a relative and a friend — on Friday evening.
The report claims two men drove up on a motorcycle and opened fire.
Global Affairs Canada said officials are offering consular assistance along with their thoughts and prayers to the family of the deceased.
