Manitobans prepare big for a yearly summer tradition as Sustainable Development Minister Cathy Cox announces the free family fishing weekend June 11 and 12.
“This weekend, we encourage Manitobans and visitors to our province to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and recreational fisheries free of charge,” said Cox. “This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend with family and friends and explore Manitoba’s abundant fisheries and parks.”
The tradition started back in 1992 where fishers can fish without a federal license except in national parks where it is still required. Free access to provincial parks will also begin on June 12.

All boaters and watercrafts users must clean, drain and dry their watercrafts, trailers and other water-related equipment when leaving the water. They must also dispose unwanted bait in the trash to protect lakes, rivers and wetlands from aquatic invasive species (AIS).
