RCMP are investigating the theft of a travel trailer from Lakeview Campground in Gull Lake, which wildfire evacuees were living in temporarily.

Officers said the trailer was reported stolen on Sunday. They said it was taken from the overflow area of the campground, which is about 30 kilometres north of Red Deer, Alta.

The trailer was found on Monday, they said, but “several sentimental and special items belonging to the family were missing.”

The family told police the following items were gone:

  • Heirloom jewellery (two rings of great sentimental value);
  • A girl’s purple BMX bike with purple pegs;
  • A boy’s lime green BMX bike with black pegs.

The RCMP is pleading with anyone who has any information on the theft to come forward. They are hoping to eventually get these items back to the family.
