Environment Canada issued a heat advisory for parts of Alberta Sunday in anticipation of unseasonably warm temperatures.
There is a strong upper ridge moving in that is combining with a southerly flow at lower levels, and the result is that the province will see unusually warm daytime highs.
Southern regions like Lethbridge and Medicine Hat could see highs Monday through Wednesday around 32 degrees Celsius. Central regions are expecting highs around 29 or 30 degrees.
Things are not expected to cool off at night either, with overnight lows closer to average daytime highs than average overnight lows.
This kind of prolonged heat, especially so early in the season, can be dangerous, which is why Environment Canada issued the advisory.
Late-day thunderstorms can also pop up as a result of extreme daytime heating. The forecast for Calgary includes possible thunderstorms for Monday afternoon.
