RCMP were called to Weed Lake near Langdon, Alta. Sunday morning after a small plane capsized in the water at around 10:30 a.m.
Mounties said a pilot flying an ultra-light plane was practising landing on the water when a piece of equipment broke and caused the plane to capsize in the lake.
EMS said the pilot swam to shore with the help of some people who were canoeing in the lake at the time.
The pilot suffered minor, soft tissue injuries and was released at the scene after paramedics assessed him.
RCMP said the plane made a hard landing in the lake but it didn’t crash.
Jon Lee from the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) said there will be no investigation from his department because it was a small home built aircraft and the pilot suffered minor injuries.
Lee said the TSB will be getting information from the pilot over the next couple of days to add the report to their database, but that is the extent of their involvement.
RCMP are also not investigating.
Weed Lake is a wetland area just outside of Langdon. It is located aprroximately 20 kilometres east of Calgary.
