Hockey Manitoba has decided to not submit a bid to host the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship. The international tournament will be played in Canada that year.

The provincial hockey organization says there wasn’t enough support to put in an application. Hockey Manitoba told Global News last month it was interested in hosting the tournament but needed the commitment of True North Sports & Entertainment before submitting a bid.

“They hold the trump card obviously,” said Hockey Manitoba executive director Peter Woods back on April 26. “We’re always interested in the opportunity to bring a showcase event like (the World Juniors) to Manitoba.”

Manitoba last hosted the World Juniors in 1999.

Applications were due to Hockey Canada Tuesday.
