The City of Saskatoon announced $1.8 million aimed at generating renewed interest in downtown streetscapes. This year’s funding will go toward refreshing components on 21st Street and Broadway Avenue, adding new features to 20th Street West and 25th Street and developing a conceptual design on Idylwyld Drive.
As part of the 21st Street streetscape project, five pedestrian crosswalks from Spadina Crescent to 1st Avenue will be painted with motifs, such as maple leaves and tyrannosaurus footprints.

Temporary crosswalk painting is expected to start Monday and finish up Thursday.
The city’s urban design program focuses on renewing and maintaining its streetscapes in key, commercial districts. Over the next three years, the emphasis will be on some the oldest streetscaped areas.
A portion of the city’s parking meter revenue funds the entirety of the streetscape and maintenance work for the program.
