The Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre was called after the eagle was found on the bank of the Red River near Middlechurch, Manitoba on Friday.

“We don’t think it was like this for too long,”  said Lisa Tretiak with the rehabilitation centre. “The bird is in good condition but it is under a lot of stress.”

Tretiak urged anyone fishing to clean up after themselves to prevent events like this from happening.

“You do have this idea of bald eagles being magestic and royal so to see it on the ground unable to move is disheartening. It is something humans caused,” Tretiak said. “If you are going to be fishing, clean up after yourself.”

The eagle will be started on antibiotics and the centre will monitor the wings during recovery. Once the bird is recovered it will be released near Winnipeg.
