TransLink launches first phase of their fare review with online survey

TransLink wants to hear from transit users to help improve its fare system.

Today, TransLink invited the public to provide feedback in its Transit Fare Review online survey. The two-year process looks at improving the system that determines what people pay for public transit.

This is the first phase of four for the fare review.

“We’ve had a three zone system since 1984, so its been over 30 years. And in between that and the introduction of compass [card], we’re at an unprecedented time where we have new technology that could enable us to look at how we charge fares differently,” TransLink spokesperson Jennifer Morland said.

“That’s really what the gut of this process is… wanting to go and talk to our customers. Hear what’s working for them, hear how they would like us to improve the system and we can go from there.”

Feedback gathered during each phase will be used to evaluate different fare options.

TransLink said it will provide a summary of the feedback shared and how it was used at the end of each phase.

The first phase includes the online survey, which runs runs from May 24 to June 30, forums, in-person events and market research.
