Canoeists rescued by Manitoba Air Force squadrons

WINNIPEG — Two Air Force squadrons based in Manitoba combined to rescue a pair of stranded canoeists near Red Lake, Ontario.

They activated a personal locator beacon after forest fires in the area put them in danger.

A CC-130 Hercules plane from 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron in Winnipeg found the canoeists.

They were extracted by a Bell 412 helicopter from 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School in Southport.

The pair was taken to Red Lake Airport and handed over to Ontario Provincial Police.
