According to CBS News, the bear chomped on his head – embedding one of its fangs into his skull – swiped his leg with its claws, and injured his shoulder blade.

“I remember thinking this thing is going to kill me,” Steck told CBS News. “I was facing the bear the whole time. I remember hearing it, I remember the sound of it breathing, I remember the sound of it snaring.”

His wife, Hannah Steck, heard her husband being attacked and immediately ran to his aid.

Luckily for Kenny, his wife is a trained nurse and was able to attend to his wounds quickly and quickly evacuated him by boat.
