If you saw Edmonton Transit buses outside Save-On-Foods stores around the city yesterday, you would be forgiven for doing a double-take — after all, the annual Stuff a Bus campaign usually runs in late fall as the food bank gears up for the holiday season.
However a special, one-day food fundraiser was held Saturday at 14 Save-On-Foods locations in support of Fort McMurray wildfire evacuees.
Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., ETS collected 14,765 kilograms of non-perishable foods and non-food items like deodorant, soaps and other hygiene products.
ETS marketing associate Marvin Babiuk told 630 CHED there was a definite need for the donation drive, which was in support of both evacuees and Edmonton’s Food Bank. He said the food bank has been an important pillar of support even outside of Edmonton.
