MONTREAL – Two people are dead after a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck Saturday afternoon in Saint-Nazaire-de-Dorchester, roughly 80 kilometres southeast of Quebec City.
The driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 60s, and his passenger, a woman in her 50s, both from the Quebec City region, died of their injuries in hospital.
The collision happened at around 2 p.m. Saturday when a group of five motorcycles travelling westbound on Highway 216 came across a truck heading in the opposite direction.
Preliminary reports indicate the truck went over the line and into oncoming traffic in a curve, crashing into the lead motorcycle and fatally injuring the two people on board.
A second motorcyclist was also slightly injured after trying to avoid the collision, as was the driver of the truck.
The road was closed for several hours as officers with the Sûreté du Québec investigated.
The truck driver was scheduled to meet with investigators later in the day.
It is still not known whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the deadly crash.
