It was around 3:30 p.m. that a 9-1-1 call was received from a fellow hiker about the trapped man says Kelowna Fire Department platoon captain Tim Light.

The Ellison Fire Department and KFD’s technical rope rescue team responded.

“Upon arrival, Ellison Fire confirmed that there was a male victim stuck in Mill Creek Canyon and that technical rescue would be needed to extract the hiker,” said Light in a news release.

“[KFD] personnel arrived on scene and proceeded to lower a rescuer to the hiker.”

Light says while the hiker was wet he was not hurt.

This is the third technical rescue in the area within the last year, according to Light.

“When going hiking, it is always a good idea to notify someone of your expected route.”
