Another major Saskatoon road construction project gets underway this Sunday when rehabilitation work starts on the Idylwyld Drive overpass at Ruth Street. The work will force the closure of two of the four lanes, forcing both directions of travel into a single lane.
This means a zipper merge will be needed in that area.
“We do not anticipate significant traffic delays so long as drivers pay attention to signage and use the zipper merge method,” said Rob Frank, the city’s engineering manager of asset preservation.

City officials are reminding drivers that when approaching the zone, to stay in your lane until the point of merge and then take turns.
Crews will be removing the existing asphalt and then replacing the top portion of the concrete deck with a new one. There will also be modifications made to the approach slab and expansion joints.
Work on the 50-year-old overpass is expected to last until the end of August.
