WINNIPEG — Police are still looking for a “military style assault rifle” that was used in an evening homicide in the 600 block of Wellington Avenue.
Two men have been arrested and face first degree murder charges.
Winnipeg police responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening after reports of an injured male.

The man was found in his home with gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

He’s been identified as George Prieston, 29. Police say Prieston’s dog was shot by suspects during the incident. Officers were forced to put the dog down.
“The dog unfortunately did die, it had to be put down by members. It was severely wounded,” Winnipeg police Cst. Rob Carver said Friday afternoon.
Witnesses told police a military-style assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine was used.
“It’s incredibly concerning. This type of weapon poses a huge risk to public safety as well as safety of our members who are responding,” Carver said. The rifle hasn’t been found.
Two men have been arrested and face a number of charges including first degree murder.
Police said that drugs may have been a factor.
Both Raymond Ducharme, 25, and Shaw Poitra, 25, are facing the following charges:
- First degree murder
- Fail to comly with recognizance x 2
- Cruelty to animals
Police believe others might have been involved in the incident but haven’t been identified.
