15 people face charges in alleged Montreal cocaine ring

MONTREAL – Fifteen people face charges in an alleged Montreal-based cocaine ring.

The RCMP said American and Canadian authorities seized 220 kilograms of cocaine as well as $2 million that was to be used to help import the drugs from the United States.

Thirteen people have been arrested, while another person has been located in Italy and a 15th is also being sought.

The alleged Mafia ring imported a total of 1.4 tonnes of the drug.

The accused are expected to be arraigned by video conference Wednesday.

Most live in the Montreal area, although one is currently detained at the Kingston Penitentiary.
