Portage Terriers advance at the Western Canada Cup

The Portage Terriers kept their hopes of repeating as national champions alive on Saturday. The Terriers won a do or die showdown with the Melfort Mustangs at the Western Canada Cup in Estevan, Sask.

The 2015 RBC Cup champion Terriers defeated the Mustangs 3-2 in double overtime. Nick Henry scored midway through the second overtime period to propel the Terriers into the second qualification game. Brad Bowles and Chase Brakel also scored for Portage.

Miles Warkentine and Juston Boyer scored for Melfort in the loss.

Terriers goalie Nathan Park made 35 saves.

Later on Saturday, the West Kelowna Warriors will face the Brooks Bandits in the Western Canada Cup final. The winner will grab a berth in the RBC Cup while the loser will face the Terriers for the second and final berth on Sunday starting at 5:00 p.m. Manitoba time.
