Man Tasered following Prince Albert, Sask. stolen taxi chase

A man had to be Tasered by a Prince Albert, Sask. police officer following a chase with a stolen taxi. The pursuit started Monday morning around 5 a.m. CT when a taxi was spotted travelling southbound at a high rate of speed in the northbound lane of 2nd Avenue West.

The chase continued southbound onto Highway 2. Police say at that point, the driver started driving the taxi erratically and then collided with the police cruiser, damaging both vehicles.

The driver of the taxi, who police say was armed with a knife, then fled on foot with the officer in pursuit.

According to police, the officer fired a Taser when the fleeing man refused to obey commands. He was then taken into custody.

Both the suspect and the officer were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The 42-year-old Prince Albert man is facing a number of charges including theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a dangerous weapon.
