Cst. Ian MacDonald with Abbotsford Police says when their officers arrived, they found an unconscious man on the ground outside the store.

They checked for vital signs and began CPR when no pulse was detected.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance personnel then took over.

The 54-year-old man was transported to hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

The IIO will now be investigating to determine if there is a connection between any police action and the man’s death.

MacDonald says they are now at arm’s length from the investigation, as the IIO is now involved.

He would only say an individual was involved in the altercation and was completely cooperative with police.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has now taken conduct of the investigation into what they call a “suspicious death.” They say no further details will be released until an autopsy is performed.
