MONTREAL – The Mordecai Richler tribute gazebo on Mount Royal still stands unfinished years after the City of Montreal was slated to finish fixing it.
In 2011, the city named the 90-year-old gazebo after the famous novelist, most famously known for The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz and Barney’s Version, who grew up nearby.

However, since then, the structure has been little more than an octagonal hulk.
The last-known price tag for renovating the gazebo was about $500,000 – but that was in 2015.
Neither city officials, nor Les Amies de la Montagne, would comment on the situation.

Others have been more vocal.
“I can’t understand what’s taking so long,” said local merchant Jimmy Zoubris, who owns a store on Parc Avenue.
“It’s disrespectful of Richler’s family.”
