WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Police Service has arrested and charged a 28-year-old man in a nearly 4 year old murder. Kyllan Ellis of Lorette is charged with second degree murder in the killing of 23-year-old Simone Sanderson.
Sanderson’s body was found in an empty lot near Burrows Ave. and Main St. on September 2, 2012. She’d been missing for nearly a week at the time. Police had believed Sanderson got involved in the sex trade just months before her death, but had little information to help with the case.

Then nearly three and a half years after Sanderson’s body was discovered, officers said new information had taken them a step closer to finding a suspect.
On Monday police arrested Ellis. Officers said he was known to sexually exploit women in the sex trade. Police believe Ellis encountered Sanderson on the street where they got into a confrontation.
Deputy Chief Danny Smyth said Sanderson sustained blunt force trauma at the hands of Ellis, which killed her.
