SASKATOON – A man who led Saskatoon police on a wild chase last year has been handed a six-and-half-year prison term. Bradley Vestby was sentenced Monday for the chase on Jan. 10, 2015 that ended when two police cruisers rammed the car he was driving.
Vestby, 36, faced a total of 28 charges after he got behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle, evaded police and at times drove into oncoming lanes of traffic.
He was also accused of firing at officers during the chase.
“When he was coming down Idylwyld close to 25th, one of the vehicles that was pursuing him saw the gun come out of the window and shots were fired at the police vehicle,” said Saskatoon police Chief Clive Weighill at the time.
“He clearly posed a threat to the public and police.”

Officers fired roughly 10 to 12 shots at Vestby at two different locations during the pursuit, which started near 8th Street and Goodwin Avenue and ended downtown at 22nd Street and 2nd Avenue North.
Minus time already served, Vestby will be out of jail in four years and eight months.
