A New Jersey police officer is being hailed as a hero after he stopped a distressed man from jumping off a bridge on Monday.
Riverdale Sgt. Greg Bogert responded to a call of a man wandering in and out of traffic on a local highway.
Dashcam video shows Bogert arriving at the scene to find a man described as upset and crying.
“Hey, what’s up man,” Bogert can be heard saying before the man sprints towards the edge of the bridge.
“Come here man,” the officer yells as he is seen chasing after him. “Don’t do it!”
The man was able to get one leg over the bridge’s barrier wall before Bogert grabbed him, pulling him back from the edge and tackling him to the ground.
“It ain’t worth it,” Bogert is recorded telling the man as he lay on top of him.
The man can be heard crying as Bogert asks him, “What’s wrong with you? What’s going on?”
The man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Riverdale police posted the video to its Facebook page and received more than 260,000 views and more than 900 comments within the first 12 hours.
“So glad he was there to save him,” Stacey Gurnari-Courter posted.
“He’s a hero and now that man has a second chance,” wrote Karen Graber Hug. “Great job officer!”
