A 32-year-old Edmonton man is facing dozens of drug, firearm and explosive-related charges following a vehicle stop on the south side Friday evening.
Officers pulled over a GMC Yukon after seeing it speed down Wayne Gretzky Drive.
During the traffic stop near Calgary Trail and Whitemud, police noticed what looked like marijuana sticking out of a backpack on the floor in the back seat.
Police said they uncovered a loaded handgun, two loaded magazines, 76 rounds of ammunition, two large hunting knives, an axe and close to six grams of marijuana.
Back at southeast division, police found an improvised explosive device in the backpack.
Members of the EPS Bomb Detail were called and detonated the device in the parking lot.
A search warrant was executed for a home near 45 Avenue and Turner Square. Police said they seized a number of firearms, including two loaded pump-action shotguns, three non-restricted firearms, one loaded restricted rifle, five high-capacity, prohibited rifle magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
A second explosive device was found during the search and was detonated by the Bomb Detail.
Landon Carstairs is facing 38 charges and more are pending.
