Kelowna boat show could break attendance records

KELOWNA–Early estimates are predicting record breaking attendance at the Kelowna Yacht Club’s annual boat show this weekend, with about ten thousand people coming out.

The chair of the boat show says it was the 21st year of the event – and the biggest boat show the Yacht Club has ever put on.

“There are more than 170 boats in the water,” says Lisa McHaffie, chair of the boat show.

All kinds of boats were on display from ski boats to pontoons, luxury cruisers and classic models.

Organizers say it’s not just those interested in buying a new water craft that enjoy coming out to the show.

“I think, because it’s well entrenched in the community of Kelowna now, it has become a real family event,” says Lisa McHaffie, chair of the boat show. “It is for boat lovers too. I mean, I like to think of this as the Superstore for boat enthusiasts.”

The show is also a chance for the public to see the Kelowna Yacht Club’s clubhouse, and dine in the lounge.

Entrance to the show was by donation, with proceeds benefiting the Kelowna Yacht Club’s sailing and watersport programs, along with the Okanagan chapter of the Disabled Sailing Association of B.C.
