Lady Rebels – Apr 22, 2016

REGINA – Beer used to be a “man’s drink”. But, with the explosion of craft beer, there are more and more flavours being developed and marketed to appeal to women.

It’s caught on in such a big way that Rebellion Brewing has launched the “Lady Rebels Beer Club”. They’re about craft beer experiences led by women for women.

“I think before it was a market that wasn’t really tailored to women,” Chelsea Humble, co-leader of the Lady Rebels, said.

“But, we’re finding out what a passion we have, and women are following suit. Now they have an environment where they can learn about and enjoy those beers surrounded by other women.”

The daily email you need for 's top news stories.

“We’re calling it beer-literacy,” Lady Rebel co-leader, Vanessa Owen, said.

“We want to share our passion, and teach women how to appreciate beer. We want to open their eyes to different styles they’ve maybe never had the opportunity of trying.”

Owen is also an assistant brewer at Rebellion. She’s added creativity in the brewing room.

“I’ve pitched a few ideas and they’ve gone over really well,” Owen said.

According to the beer-loving-duo, women have a lot to offer the craft beer industry. Women do bring a whole new sales market for beer companies and offer a unique perspective on brewing.

Perhaps it’s a perspective that may prove critical in a fast-flowing market.

“The industry is changing, and taking women with it. And now, we’re along for the ride. That wasn’t always the case,” Humble said.

“With more minds working in the same industry, the more creative everyone can be.”
