WINNIPEG — An early morning fire forced several residents from their homes Friday.
The fire happened just after 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Maryland Street. Winnipeg police said the fire started in the basement of a three-storey apartment complex.
“I lost everything,” one resident told Global News.
All tenants living in the apartments were evacuated and one person was sent to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Residents have since re-entered their homes, but fire crews and police remain on scene.
Officers said there are no other injuries and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. There is no word on the estimated damage from the fire.
