“Here Comes The Sun” has been a favourite for generations of Beatles’ fans, and now Calgarians can experience it in a whole new way.
“Here Comes The Sun”, the painting , is one of more than 200 pieces in the exhibit “BeatlemaniART”, showcasing the work of Calgary artists inspired by The Beatles.
Organizer Nicole Musser grew up listening to the band , explaining “When I hear their music, it makes me feel good, because it reminds me of when I was enjoying simpler times”.
Musser’s contributions to the show include “Strawberry Fields”, featuring Paul McCartney’s face in a berry patch.
Lisa Frances, who painted “Here Comes The Sun” is from a younger generation – “I listened to a lot of heavy metal growing up”.
But Frances says when she discovered The Beatles “the doors were open, it was revolutionary. Back in the day, they were changing the world and they’re still doing it”.
The show happens at Calgary’s St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
It features the work of 25 artists, with several musicians performing as well.
Artist Coral Wales says the church is the perfect choice for the show – “For me, The Beatles bring peace. When people come to a church, they come for sanctuary and peace. The Beatles did the same thing with their music”.
