CALGARY — A drill rig on wheels is parked in the middle of the Bow River northeast of Prince’s Island Park this week, so crews can conduct geotechnical research for Calgary’s proposed Green Line LRT project.
The city said the work will involve drilling into the ground at two specific locations to obtain subsurface information and extract soil samples.

Crews drove a large vehicle with the rig mounted on the back from a staging area in Eau Claire, along 2 Street S.W. into the river valley.
The drilling could cause minor vibrations and construction noise, the city said in a statement. Officials are apologizing for any inconvenience.
They said impacts to surrounding park space and wildlife would be minimized where possible, and any disturbance to natural areas will be repaired.
The drilling is expected to wrap up April 22.
The Green Line transit service would connect the Northern Hills communities with Seton, near the South Health Campus, in the deep southeast.
When completed, it will nearly double Calgary’s current LRT network.
