Dry and windy conditions prompt fire bans near Calgary

Fire bans have been issued for areas surrounding Calgary. Alberta Fire Bans

Fire bans have been issued Tuesday for both the Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County.

The bans mean no outdoor fires are allowed, including fireworks, fire pits and charcoal barbecues. Burning permits have been suspended until further notice.

Camp stoves and barbecues, including propane or natural gas, are permitted.

The M.D. of Foothills has been under a fire ban since Feb. 9, due to extremely dry conditions. The Longview area, southwest of Calgary, has also been under a ban since last Monday.

The Airdrie Fire Department issued a fire advisory on Tuesday, meaning a fire ban may be coming if the situation does not improve.

As of Tuesday at 10 a.m., there were 44 wildfires in Alberta, with six being listed as out of control.
