Suspect sought after woman sexually assaulted at gunpoint

Toronto police are seeking the public’s assistance as they hunt for a suspect in a sexual assault case.

Investigators say that late Saturday night a 52-year old woman reported being approached by a man in the elevator of an apartment building just northeast of the downtown core.

They say the man is alleged to have shown the woman a handgun, and then forced her into a stairwell where she was sexually assaulted.

The suspect then fled the building.

Police describe him as black, 20 to 25 years old, five-foot-nine with a medium build. They say he was wearing black jeans, a grey hooded sweater, grey vest, dark toque, tan shoes and was carrying a red knapsack.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and police say anyone who recognizes him through the release of video surveillance should call 9-1-1 immediately.
