UPDATE: 8 years in prison for accused in Alberta and Saskatchewan bank robberies
A man believed to be responsible for a string of bank robberies in Alberta and Saskatchewan is in police custody. Mounties arrested the 41-year-old man Friday in Lloydminster, Alta.
Saskatoon police officials say it is the same man who is believed to have held up three banks in the city – twice on March 28 and another on April 6.
In each case, a man entered the financial institution, demanded money and then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives with Saskatoon Police Service then contacted their counterparts in Edmonton and Calgary, who were also dealing with recent bank robberies.
They determined it was the same man who committed robberies in Alberta.
Detectives with Edmonton police believe he held up five financial institutions during March. He is also accused of holding up a bank in Calgary this month.
Investigators from all three police forces, along with Lloydminster RCMP, continue to investigate.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in a Lloydminster courtroom today and Saskatoon police have requested arrest warrants for him.
