For most comic book store patrons, having Benedict Cumberbatch walk through the door would probably be exciting enough.
But having him walk through the door dressed head-to-toe as Doctor Strange might just be fanboy (and girl) nirvana.
Cumberbatch, who stars as the titular Marvel superhero in his upcoming big screen adaptation, decided to drop into JHU Comic Books in New York City this past Sunday alongside the film’s director, Scott Derrickson.
Cumberbatch chatted with fans, took photos, and in a very meta moment even purchased a Doctor Strange comic – still rocking the character’s trademark goatee and red cape.

Doctor Stephen Strange made his comic debut in 1963, just a short time after the arrival of Marvel comics mainstays like Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.
Strange’s storylines explored the mystical, otherworldly aspects of the Marvel universe.
Doctor Strange is slated to open Nov. 4 in North America. The film also stars Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton, and takes place in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel’s Netflix series Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
