CAP-AUX-MEULES, Que. – A funeral for former federal cabinet minister Jean Lapierre and five of his relatives will be held next Friday.

The service for the ex-political commentator, his wife, his father, his two brothers and one of his sisters will take place in Bassin, Lapierre’s hometown in Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

His father, Raymond Lapierre, died of Parkinson’s disease just a few days before the five others lost their lives in a plane crash on Tuesday as they headed back to eastern Quebec.
A commemorative ceremony for Lapierre will also be held in Montreal on April 16.

The bodies of the pilot and co-pilot, who also both died in the crash, are to be sent to Montreal for autopsies to determine whether the accident may have been caused by a sudden health problem.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash, which occurred in high winds.
