Edmonton police have confirmed a woman who was found dead inside a north Edmonton apartment suite on Monday died as a result of trauma.
Police said Lisa Kristine Randhawa’s death has been deemed a homicide.
A family member went to check on the 42-year-old woman’s well-being and found her dead in an apartment at 114 Avenue and 132 Street Monday. The relative called 911 around 10:45 a.m.
“There is some blunt force trauma to the victim,” EPS Det. Stephen Camp said Monday. “We’re not sure where that trauma has come from…It could have been from before this weekend.”
Several police vehicles and an ambulance were parked outside the Baywood Park apartments on Monday. Officers were seen going in and out of apartment complexes in the area for hours.
They were canvassing door-to-door, speaking with residents and taking photos. Several hours after police were initially called to the apartment, an identification team appeared to be dusting the inside and outside of the apartment building’s front door.
Tate said police didn’t give him any details about what they were investigating.
Around 2 p.m., the homicide unit was called out.
A neighbour said police were in a second-floor suite where the woman lived. Abraha Tsegay recalled saying ‘hi’ to the woman’s mother when she arrived at the apartment building around 9 a.m. Monday. When he came back, he said the apartment was surrounded by police and he wasn’t allowed back inside.

Homicide resources have been stretched thin in the city over the past week.
“The workload is incredibly high right now for the entire section,” Camp said. “We are scrambling big time here.
“We’re pulling resources form all different divisions and sections within EPS right now to help us out, even outside our agency.”
Camp said he’s been with EPS for 25 years and “has never seen this before.”
Randhawa’s death is still under investigation. Police did not say whether they have any suspects in custody.
