Man surrenders to police after Tasers fail to stop him

SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man is facing charges of assault and mischief after a disturbance Sunday morning. Police were called out to a home in the 500-block of Avenue J North just after 8 a.m. CT.

Officers found a 35-year-old woman who was allegedly assaulted by a man.

Police say the man then came out of the home and damaged the woman’s vehicle with a heavy jack before arming himself with a small axe.

He then approached police.

Police deployed two Tasers in an effort to stop the man, but both were unsuccessful. He then barricaded himself inside his home.

He eventually surrendered to police.

Police believe he was under the influence of intoxicants and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The 29-year-old man, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, is facing charges of assault and mischief.

He will appear before a justice of the peace once he is released from hospital.
