Toronto fire truck responds to watermain break, ends up in sinkhole

TORONTO — A Toronto fire truck wound up in a sinkhole just after midnight on Sunday while responding to a broken watermain.

The pumper had pulled into the parking lot outside a daycare near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue when the ground caved in underneath it.

Firefighters removed all the water from the pumper to lighten the load and prevent the truck from slipping deeper into the sinkhole. A heavy tow truck eventually pulled it out.

The fire truck was damaged, but no one was hurt.
