MISSISSAUGA —  A Peel police officer is recovering in hospital after he was struck by a car at the Apollo Convention Centre in Mississauga around 11:45 Saturday night.

The 18-year-old male driver tried to flee on foot but was soon arrested near Kennedy Road and Courtneypark Drive.

The driver faces several charges including failure to remain at the scene of an accident, impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to provide a breath sample, and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

Both the officer and the driver were taken to hospital. Police said the officer suffered a non-life threatening leg injury.
