Jian Ghomeshi ‘not guilty’ verdict sends Twitter into a frenzy

On Thursday morning, former CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi was found not guilty of all charges in his high-profile court case.

He was acquitted of sexual assault and overcome resistance by choking.

Justice William B. Horkins delivered his decision in the judge-only trial after carefully weighing the evidence since testimony wrapped six weeks ago.

Horkins said the three complainants in the case were not credible given their changing memories and there was reasonable doubt because it is impossible to determine “what is true and what is false.”

Immediately after the verdict was announced, Twitter users posted their shocked, resigned and angry reactions. The hashtag #IBelieveSurvivors quickly began to trend.

Comedian and actress Margaret Cho voiced her support for the victims of sexual assault.

Even politicians, like NDP leader Thomas Mulcair, Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horvath and Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod, voiced their opinions.

The Social co-host Cynthia Loyst weighed in.

Canadian author and social activist Naomi Klein thanked the women who came forward to accuse Ghomeshi.
