Facebook activates ‘Safety Check’ feature following Brussels explosions

Facebook has activated its “Safety Check” feature for users in the Brussels area, after explosions rocked the Brussels airport and subway system, killing at least at least 23 people, according to Belgium media, and injuring many more.

Safety Check allows family and loved ones to check in with those in affected areas to let them know they’re safe. The tool allows users to check in as “Safe,” which sends a notification to their friends list.

Facebook activated the feature hours after the explosions rocked the Belgium capital; however, the social media giant faced criticism for not activating the check in system sooner.
