WATCH: Sisler Spartans and John Taylor Pipers claim Manitoba high school basketball titles

WINNIPEG – The Sisler Spartans and John Taylor Pipers celebrated championships in high school basketball on Monday night.

The top seeded John Taylor Pipers defeated the Garden City Fighting Gophers 94-68 in the final of the Provincial AAAA Boys Basketball Championships at the University of Manitoba’s Investors Group Athletic Centre. Pipers forward James Wagner was named the provinces most valuable player after leading his team to the championship in his senior season. He’s already committed to play for the Manitoba Bisons starting in the fall.

It was the first boys basketball title for John Taylor since 1996.

The Sisler Spartans waltzed over the Vincent Massey Trojans 84-63 to win the girls crown for the second year in a row. The Spartans were led by twin sisters Kyanna and Kyia Giles. Kyanna poured in a game high 41 points with 8 rebounds in the final. She was named the provinces most valuable player. Kyia had 14 points while Raizel Guinto had 19 points in the Spartans victory.
